3. Research Projects

2023-2026 Co-PI (with M. Hennig and W. Loh) of the project “The Interactive Gaze – On the Status and Ethics of Surveillance Images in Digital Games”, funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG), call for projects “Das Digitale Bild (The digital image)” (≃ 500,000 euros).
The aim of the project is to study with quali-quantitative methods the way in which surveillance practices are represented and simulated in video games and the effects on perception and public practices, in order to propose an ethical and normative framework.

2021-2022 Participation in the LOUISA project (“Learning model for the multidimensional quantitative analysis of movement”), funded by the German Ministry of Education and Research (≃ 1,200,000 euros), as responsible for the ethical assessment of its phases, from the design and training of the AI algorithm to the design of the application for telephones and connected watches.

2018-2022 Co-PI (with F. Sebbah) of the project “The new technological imaginaries of the self, the world and others”, funded by the ArTeC University Research School (≃ 30,000 euros).
The purpose of the project was twofold. First, it was a question of proposing a theorization of the concept of technological imaginary opposing the empirical attitude dominating the contemporary epistemology and philosophy of technology. Second, the aim was to empirically study emerging technological imaginaries among staff and patients in a complex socio-technical environment such as the Institut Faire Faces in Amiens (France).

2018-2022 Co-PI (with J. Higuera and J. Meirinhos) of the project “From Data to Wisdom: Data Visualizations in the Middle Ages and Early Modernity (13th-17th Century)”, funded by the Portuguese Research Foundation ( FCT), generic call for projects (≃ 250,000 euros).
The project developed on three levels: (1) a collection of diagrams for the visualization of knowledge in manuscripts from the 13th to the 17th century, notably from the Iberian Peninsula; (2) the development of a system based on IIIF for the annotation of these images, enriched with an AI algorithm for analysis and automatic visualization, based on PixPlot; (3) an epistemological meta-reflection on the similarities and differences between visualizations of knowledge in the Middle Ages and visualizations of contemporary data.
